JANUARY
5 January, Saturday - At the Unitarian New Meeting, Edgbaston, Birmingham: an open forum to discuss the future of the Unitarian and Free Christian movement. Starts 12 noon, ends 4 pm. Please take sandwiches. No need to book. The venue is 15 minutes' walk from Birmingham New Street Station.
6 January Preacher: Revd. Martin Whitell, Associate Minister to the Portsmouth Unitarian congregation. The service will end with a short, celebration of communion for all who wish to take part.
13 January Preacher: Dr. Julie Adams, of the Chapel Society. After the service: a sandwich lunch (please bring your own) and a forum about mental-health matters, led by chapel members Dr Mphala Mogudi, Jan Laker, and Alison Butler. All welcome; meeting ends at 2.30 pm.

Extraordinary General Meeting after the service to discuss the following resolution, to be submitted (if the congregation approves) for debate at the annual meetings of the General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches):
That this General Assembly, mindful of the need for marriages and civil partnerships to be placed on an equal footing, and the need for full compliance with the spirit of the Human Rights Act, resolves that the Marriage Act 1949 should be amended so as to enable ceremonies creating civil partnerships to be performed in any church, chapel or other premises licensed for the celebration of marriage.

19 March, Wednesday -The funeral of HILDA CHART, who died on 7th March at the age of 98, will take place on Wednesday March 19th. A brief committal at 11.30 am at Oxford Crematorium for the family only will be followed by a full service in the college chapel, conducted by Revd Peter Hewis, at 12.30 pm. If you plan to attend the service, please arrive by 12.15 pm. (NB: we are not entitled to use the college car park on week-days.) Hilda's family have asked for donations in lieu of flowers to be made to the 'Send a Child to Hucklow' Fund.

14 May, Wednesday - the annual Asparagus Lunch at Oat Street Unitarian Chapel in Evesham, will be held on Wednesday 14th May (in commemoration of the 18th-century dissenting ministers who used to meet on the pretext of sampling the local asparagus crop). The annual service of worship will be conducted at 12 noon by Revd Donald Phillips, followed by luncheon (£10 per head), including asparagus of course. 7 June, Saturday: Annual Garden Party of the Oxford branch of the Unitarian Women's League at 2.30pm at the home of Chris Jones, Standlake. Revd Penny Johnson, President of the Women's League, will give a talk entitled A Woman in the Ministry. Afterwards there will be tea and the chance to enjoy Norman Chart's lovely garden at Brittenton House next door. Those wishing to attend should let Heddwen Hewis know numbers, by Wednesday 4th June latest.

19 June, Thursday: the launch of the Oxford Council of Faiths in the Quaker Meeting House and Garden (42 St Giles). Garden and Meeting Hall open from 6.00 pm, official welcome: 6.15 pm, speeches finish 7.00 pm. After this there will be food and hospitality until about 8.30 pm. Everyone of faith who lives, works or worships in Oxford is welcome to attend this event, which will begin with an exchange of ideals, and possibilities, and hopes between members of Oxford's faith communities and representatives of the city's police, the NHS, and the City Council.
